Emergencies occur frequently at home, workplaces and in other places. Having adequate knowledge and skills to respond to common emergencies can make a great difference in someone's life.

This basic, blended learning offers an overview of first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for the workplace or home. It includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. It is adapted from the curriculum of the Canadian Red Cross to fit the Nigerian context. The course consists of 4 hours in class and 4.5 hours of online learning.

Program Details

Adapted from the curriculum of the Canadian Red Cross to fit the Nigerian context, this course consists of 4 hours in class and 4.5 hours of online learning.

Learning Objectives


At the end of this course, the learner will be able to assess situations and circumstances to provide First Aid safely, promptly and effectively in a range of emergencies, such as:

  • administering first aid to an adult casualty who is unconscious (including seizure),
  • administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation to infants, children and adults, including using an AED, administering first aid to an adult casualty who is choking, administering first aid to an adult casualty who is wounded and bleeding, administering first aid to an adult casualty who is suffering from shock, and providing appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, and small splinters).
