Program Details

The Cancer Control and Patient Navigation Project seeks to harmonize the approach to cancer early detection, diagnosis, and treatment in Abia State of Nigeria. Participants will learn how to use the new, online patient navigation system develop by Obong University and Marjorie Bash Foundation.

The Cancer Control and Patient Navigation Project seeks to harmonize the approach to cancer early detection, diagnosis, and treatment in Abia State of Nigeria.

Using a blended-learning approach, we provide a rich, course that trains students and healthcare professionals on how to become competent in cancer control and the use of clinical pathways for breast, cervical, and prostate cancers. The course also teaches about Patient Navigation, i.e. how to guide patients through different phases of their 'cancer journey'. Participants will learn how to use the new, online patient navigation system develop by Obong University and Marjorie Bash Foundation.

Featured topics include:

  • Overview of clinical pathways for breast, and cervical cancers
  • Basics of patient navigation and the use of online patient navigation software
  • How to manage cancer patient support groups (in person and online)

This course was developed for doctors; nurses/midwives; community health officers/extension workers; as well as students, who may be interested in enhancing their understanding of cancer advocacy, early detection, use of clinical pathways, and patient navigation.

100% attendance, skills demonstration, and 70% min. passing grade on written exam

A Certificate of Completion from Marjorie Bash College of Health Sciences and Technology will be issued, upon completion of this course.

Participation in this course is VOLUNTARY but you are required to complete both the online and in-person components in order to receive your ELECTRONIC COURSE CERTIFICATE.

Learning Objectives


This course was developed for doctors, nurses, pharmacists and medical laboratory scientists, who may be interested in enhancing their understanding of infection control and antimicrobial stewardship. At the end of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Understand the steps outlined in the clinical pathways for breast and cervical cancers,
  • Perform tasks required of patient navigators in different settings,
  • Use an online patient navigation software, which is available through any smartphone to serve their patients,
  • Join a network of healthcare providers under the Clinical Pathway and Patient Navigation Project (available in Abia and Akwa Ibom State).
